About Us
Iowa’s Promise helps all Iowans take part in the life-success of children and youth. By providing support and resources to individuals and communities, Iowa's Promise helps those community partners fufill Five Promises for America's youth (see below). Iowa’s Promise is strengthened by its work with the Iowa Collaboration for Youth Development, which believes all Iowans benefit when youth are engaged and contributing in their communities. Experiences and connections children and youth have growing up affect their success in school, in work, and in life. The Five Promises of America's Promise--The Alliance for Youth: Every child and youth shall have... 1. Caring Adults 2. Safe Places 3. A Healthy Start 4. Marketable Skills 5. Opportunities to Serve
Our vision is that all Iowa youth have safe and supportive families, schools and communities and that they are healthy, socially competent, successful in school and prepared for a productive adulthood.
To accomplish this vision, our mission is to ensure that state agencies with a compelling interest in the well-being of children and youth in Iowa will integrate the following Iowa Youth Development Results Framework* into the work of their respective agencies. It is our hope that, as a collaborative body working together with youth in their communities, these agencies will achieve collective goals, participate in joint decision making, and foster mutual accountability for positive results.
*The Iowa Youth Development Results Framework:
1. All youth have the benefit of safe and supportive families, schools and communities (Promises 1-3). 2. All youth are healthy and socially competent (Promise 3). 3. All youth are successful in school (Promise 4). 4. All youth are prepared for productive adulthood (Promise 4 and Promise 5).
