Buena Vista's Promise
On November 27, 2006 Buena Vista County was designated a Community of Promise by Governor Tom Vilsack. On January 11, 2007 the launch of Buena Vista’s Promise was held and an America’s Promise red wagon was presented.

This designation will enable Buena Vista County to effectively serve the youth in Buena Vista County through closer collaboration among youth-serving organizations, increased awareness of youth issues and strengthening the assets for children and youth in the community.

The mission of Buena Vista’s Promise is to empower youth and families to make safe and healthy decisions by providing a supportive framework through the collective power of our community partnerships. They also aim to improve the quality and quantity of youth programming available in the county.
